This blog has been a little neglected of late. 2011 started with a hiss and a roar and life at McGovern has been busy, busy, busy.

These are some of the things that have been occupying our time.

Govett-Brewster Gallery website launch.

Govett-Brewster website

On March 4th Helen took a trip to New Plymouth to be at the official launch of the new Govett-Brewster website which has been two years in the planning and realisation.

Govett-Brewster Gallery is New Zealand's leading contemporary art museum and home to the collection of modernist filmmaker and kinetic sculptor Len Lye. Although it is a relatively small gallery, Govett-Brewster punches above its weight with the quality of its Collection and Exhibition programme.

It was a delight to be involved with this project and to work with the  Director, Rhana Devenport, and her team who are dedicated to developing  a virtual space where the spirit of the Gallery can be experienced online. See more about this project here

New work in WordPress

There are some exciting new projects coming up in the next few weeks. Included amongst them is a soon to be launched website for a client in London built on a customised WordPress platform. McGovern has developed WordPress powered websites in the past, for example www.janetwilson.co.nz and www.brianedwardsmedia.co.nz, whose main function is to allow the site owners to blog about matters to do with their areas of expertise. WordPress however has evolved beyond its original function as a bloggers tool into a full content management system which, when combined with the use of plugins, enables development of fully-fledged, media-rich websites.

This is an ideal solution for small to medium sized businesses or not-for-profits wishing to achieve a dynamic website with the ability for frequent content updates in a cost effective manner. If you would like to know more about utilising WordPress please get in touch.

The "No Numpties" scholarship in honour of Paul Reynolds

The National Library of New Zealand (NLNZ),  Library and Information Association of New Zealand Aotearoa (LIANZA) and InternetNZ (Internet New Zealand Inc) are honouring the memory of Paul Reynolds, the very sadly missed founding co-director of McGovern, with a scholarship for international study.

The Scholarship is intended to enhance the knowledge and development of those working in the New Zealand GLAM (Galleries, Libraries, Archives Museums) sector. It will enable the successful applicant to spend a brief time working with an overseas institution in order to research/develop specialist digital knowledge or experience.

More information can be found on the LIANZA website: www.lianza.org.nz/Paul_Reynolds_Scholarship
