Muka Studio started in 1984 as a workshop dedicated exclusively to printing lithographs in the traditional way from lithographic stone. Muka Gallery originally started as an outlet for the studio, but now shows a wide range of works including painting, sculpture, artists' books, photos etc.
Muka's owners, Frans Baetens and Magda Van Gils, envisioned a website which would promote artists and prints and other works within New Zealand and internationally, especially to clients in Europe. It also needed to tell the fascinating Muka story and promote exhibitions and other events especially the unique Youth Prints programme. Finally the clients wished to be able to sell prints and other works from the website.
The website profiles the many New Zealand and international artists who have worked in the studio with browsable viewing of their works. There is an exhibitions calendar and full e-commerce capability.
