NZMuseums showcases New Zealand's museums and galleries and their collections.
It's also a directory of museums and galleries, and an online collection management system. It is the initiative of National Services Te Paerangi, a team at the Museum of New Zealand Te Papa Tongarewa.
McGovern had worked with National Services Te Paerangi on a previous iteration of NZMuseums so when the team decided to redesign the front end user interface following usability testing, we were happy to help. We worked once again with Vernon Systems who coded the templates and integrated them with their eHive collections management software.
User testing showed that museums had trouble finding the Museums sign in so Sign In was made more prominent on the homepage. When statistics showed that Find A Museum was the most popular page, a map showing regions was added to the homepage.
Latest Museums items posted remained a popular feature so that was retained on the homepage and a Twitter feed added.
